By March, you’re well into another year of email marketing. However, you’re kind of in an odd spot on the calendar. Spring hasn’t yet sprung, so it’s too soon to begin marketing for summer.
Winter is barely holding on, so promoting winter-related goods doesn’t seem right either. While it might be an in-between time, the air is electric with change, making March an optimal period to launch your next email marketing campaign.
Here are some March newsletter ideas to help you nail your marketing.

Marching Forward: 21+ March Newsletter Ideas for 2024
Now, let’s get right to the good stuff.
1. Rethink Your Diet for National Nutrition Month
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is behind National Nutrition Month, a whole 30 days about learning more about what you put into your body and how it fuels your lifestyle and keeps you healthy.
You can write an entire newsletter about this month. I would especially recommend that if you’re in the health and wellness industry. This is your month to capitalize on helping your audience become healthier.
Besides sharing tips, you can also recommend your products and services, such as meetings with a personal trainer or an at-home exercise bike.
People will want to get back into shape for swimsuit season, especially since it’s been months since implementing New Year’s resolutions. You can work with them. It helps to sweeten the pot with a discount.
2. Embrace Being You During Celebrate Your Name Week
As March gets underway, acknowledge Celebrate Your Name Week for the entire first week.
How, you ask? Well, personalizing emails is certainly a good way to start. You can ask your customers about their unique name origins, cross-post on social media, and connect with your audience there about the same.
Ask for permission to post the most interesting names or name origin stories. Your customers will love the extra attention heaped on them. Better yet, this marketing strategy doesn’t cost you a cent!
3. Showcase Historical Figures During National Women’s History Month
National Women’s Day Month is all throughout March, giving you another meaningful cause to spotlight.
You have several ways you can play it. You could launch a series of emails discussing the most influential women in your industry, or you can spotlight historical women.
You can also write about important women-supported or related causes that are near and dear to your company’s heart, increasing awareness (and donations).
Lastly, you could also run a sale, or maybe a combination of the above.
4. Spotlight Your Best for National Salesperson Day
Although National Salesperson Day on the first Friday of March might best seem like a holiday celebrated internally, I disagree. Customers always appreciate a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how your company works, and celebrating National Salesperson Day is a great way to do it.
Alternatively, you can focus on Employee Appreciation Day on the same date, whichever floats your boat.
The premise is the same. Have an interview with the spotlighted employee, sharing their personality and who they are with your readers, sort of like this.
5. Say Something Kind on World Compliment Day
Niceness is always free, so why not tell your customers what they mean to you on World Compliment Day?
A simple, heartfelt message from your founder or another principal member of your company that tells your audience how much you appreciate their business should go over like gangbusters.
If you want to ensure high email open rates, supply a discount code. You can even mention a “free gift inside” in your email subject line.

6. Have a Sale on I Want You to Be Happy Day
Yes, there is an occasion in March called I Want You to Be Happy Day, which happens on the 3rd. Professionally, there’s only one way to get into the spirit of this day: sale! Or a discount. Whatever will save your customers money is a way to make them happy.
That’s really all there is to it. You don’t have to make this one flashy or complex.
7. Get Creative on If Pets Had Thumbs Day
What if pets had thumbs? It’s certainly fun to think about! So, why not make a contest out of it? Ask your customers what they think their pets would do if they had thumbs, whether it’s driving a car or sending a text message. Entries can include AI images, videos, artwork, or even creative stories.
Pet supply brands can get a lot of use out of this one, as can any company that provides pet services, even veterinarians.
Give away a good prize, such as a year of free nail trimming or $25 off the next purchase.

8. Highlight the Importance of Editing on National Proofreading Day
Remember to always edit your work before hitting “send” or “publish” on March 8th, National Proofreading Day. Yes, I spelled “remember” wrong to prove a point. Yes, leaving it like that pained me.
You know how unprofessional you can look if you misspell an obvious word, whether responding to a potential new client or customer or an existing one.
If you sell any sort of proofreading service, you can offer a discount for the week of March 8th or perhaps a free trial so potential customers can see how beneficial your service is.
Even if your business isn’t directly related to proofreading, this day is still a good excuse to connect with your audience by emailing them a quick reminder that proofreading matters.

9. Embrace Your Women Warriors on International Women’s Day
While it’s National Women’s History Month all March long, International Women’s Day occurs on March 8th, so don’t miss it.
The same ideas I recommended for National Women’s History Month apply to this day. Multi-day sales are quite common here, especially by women-owned businesses or companies with primarily female customers.
10. Remind Your Customers About Daylight Savings
We finally gain back that extra hour of daylight in March, but at the expense of losing an hour one weekend. Daylight Savings can take any of us by surprise, especially because it doesn’t occur on the same day every year.
No one likes to find out on the weekend that Daylight Savings is right around the corner, especially if you have a young child or a new pet. You have to acclimate them for days.
You can help your customers do that by sending a reminder email a week in advance and then another reminder that weekend. You will ensure your customers won’t forget the time change!
You could even capitalize on this small but impactful seasonal shift with a sale, because why not?
11. Don’t Miss the International Day of Awesomeness
March 10th is International Day of Awesomeness, a special occasion you can celebrate no matter where your business is located in the world.
As the name implies, this is an awesome day for all things, especially your employees and customers.
If you have an awesome new product or sale, you’ve waited to unveil, today seems like a pretty great day to do so. You can even offer an exclusive discount, like 20 percent off, using code AWESOME.

12. Start a Scavenger Hunt on International Find a Phone Booth Day
Phone booths have largely gone the way of the dodo, which is a shame, as they were such a cultural symbol 20-odd years ago.
Why not send your customers on a hunt to find phone booths in their city or town on International Find a Phone Booth Day, also on March 10th?
Depending on how in-depth you want to go, you can have some real fun with this one. Your company could create an app where your customers log in and pin phone booths. You could also ask your audience to tag you in their pictures on social media with phone booths using a hashtag you create.
This is a surefire way to get your audience outside and enjoy the early Spring weather.

13. Go Green on Plant a Flower Day
Another excellent idea for encouraging more time outside comes on the 12th on Plant a Flower Day. This self-explanatory holiday is a great way to give back to our planet by beautifying it. Plant a flower in your backyard and track its growth.
I like this newsletter above because it mentions the benefits of planting. In addition to that information, you can also provide gardening tips and some photos in your email newsletters.
You could even make it a contest to see who grows the most beautiful flowers, with the winner declared by a customer vote. That ought to inspire more people to participate!

14. Put on Your Thinking Cap on Pi Day
Of course, I had to talk about Pi Day on March 14th. The reason? The first three digits of pi are 3.14. How you celebrate Pi Day depends on your industry. If you’re a baking business, it’s fine to get punny and run a discount on pies for “Pie Day.”
Or, you can be ultra-specific, like clothing retailer UNIQLO, and take approximately $31.41 off your order.
However you celebrate Pi Day, your audience will expect an email on this day, so don’t miss it.
15. Get Bold on Everything You Do Is Right Day
While March also has Everything You Think Is Wrong Day (among a slew of other odd holidays), your business should focus more on the positive ones, like Everything You Do Is Right Day on the 16th.
Since everything your customers do is right, it’s anything goes. You might let them vote on how much of a discount you should offer on your next sale.

16. Find Luck on Saint Patrick’s Day
While sure, March 17th is Submarine Day and Corned Beef and Cabbage Day, everyone knows and loves it for Saint Patrick’s Day best of all.
You don’t have to be Irish to be lucky on this day, especially when you’re discounting prices for a limited time!
The way Moon Magic Jewelry did it above is a great example. The LUCKY15 code for $15 ties into the holiday, even if they aren’t selling anything with shamrocks.
You can use a similar code and help your customers find what’s over the rainbow!

17. Do a Good Deed for the Planet on Earth Day
Another heavy hitter of a holiday arrives on March 19th — Earth Day. This isn’t really a day about sales but awareness and education. Well, it can be about sales, depending on your company’s specialization. For example, if you’re a nursery, go for it.
You might also encourage your customers to donate to a green initiative and offer to match their donations, or perhaps you pledge to be greener.
You can also hold a giveaway or provide tips for going greener.

18. Tell a Joke on Let’s Laugh Day
Laughing feels great, and it releases endorphins. You can also bust stress and feel happier by laughing, so share the gift of joy and laughter with your email contacts on Let’s Laugh Day on March 19th.
Obviously, your focus should be on the latter between this and Earth Day. You might acknowledge Let’s Laugh Day the day before or after. That’s okay.
As you share jokes, ensure they’re appropriate for your target audience. Never use religion and politics as joke material. Here is an example of a safe joke.
19. Be Glad on International Day of Happiness
It’s time to smile real big on International Day of Happiness! Now, what can you do to make your customers smile on this March 20th holiday? I think you know what I’m going to say: with a sale, of course!
Sure, another sale might be a little on-the-nose, but if you’ve missed the other sales occasions throughout this month or are looking for another excuse to boost sales while reducing prices, I can’t think of another one this month that’s better.

20. Put Your Own Spin on Make Up Your Own Holiday Day
March 26th is Make Up Your Own Holiday Day. Yes, finally, the day you’ve been waiting for. Since there are no rules for this special 24 hours, you can make it any holiday you want. Customer Appreciation Day? Sure. Christmas in March? Why not? Our Biggest Sale of the Year Day? You betcha.
Considering how anything you say goes, take the time to tailor this occasion, especially for your customers. Or, if you’d rather they choose, you can hold a vote and give your audience the freedom to decide what you celebrate on this day.
21. Celebrate Small on National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day
At the end of every March is National Mom and Pop Business Owners Day, another chance on the calendar besides Small Business Saturday in November to honor the small businesses that keep our cities and towns interesting.
If you’re a mom-and-pop shop, make this day all about your business. You can launch a series of emails in your newsletter that describe your company history and your upcoming goals and maybe debut a new product or service.
You can also issue your customers a special sales code for the day (or a couple of days – your choice) so they can usher in your current successes and help you build a stronger future together.
22. Get Outside for Take a Walk in the Park Day
What does one do on Take a Walk in the Park Day? That much writes itself.
Put together an appealing park-related newsletter, as seen below, detailing what Walk in the Park Day is all about. Recommend community parks (if you have a local brick-and-mortar presence).
You can also describe the benefits of exercising outdoors, such as a better mood, good health, and weight management.
If your company sells any sort of athletic apparel or equipment, use this newsletter to drop a few links. That also goes for businesses specializing in pet supplies like leashes and harnesses.
23. Explore Your Sweet Tooth on Foodie Days
If you’re in the food industry and want to tantalize your customers’ taste buds, goodness knows March has more than enough opportunities.
